Intro text

Water management is highly complex but crucial for the development of the country. Mistakes are expensive and can cost lives.

The Decision Support System (DSS) provides analytical tools to discover and communicate meaningful patterns in hydrological data to support the design of adequate strategies for water management.

Intro

NO LONGER YOU NEED TO MAKE CRUCIAL DECISIONS ON THE BASIS OF GUESSES AND INTUITION

The National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), together with the Danish Hydraulic Institute, has developed the Decision Support System (DSS) which provides planning models for integrated water resources development and management of water resource systems is to address five areas:

(1) surface water planning
(2) integrated operation of reservoirs
(3) conjunctive surface water and ground water planning
(4) drought monitoring, assessment and management
(5) management of both surface and ground water quality

Using the DSS various scenarios can be envisaged allowing for the most appropriate one to be chosen..

The DSS has been very well received in the most progressive states.
Maharashtra
The Principal Secretary has given instructions to the Superintending Engineer of the Pune Irrigation Circle, the Superintending Engineer & Administrator of the CADA, Pune and Solapur should use DSS for taking decisions.

Instruction to implement the DSS

Gujarat
In Gujarat the secretary has taken personal interest  in the DSS and asked for the DSS software to be installed on his  own computer to consider the use of DSS in the prestigious Kalpasar project.

Kerala
In Kerala the secretary has asked for the results of the DSS in various forums
